Do you take a summer break from blogging?

While Death takes a holiday, blogging doesn’t seem quite so inclined. Over this holiday I’ve been working on launching the new BritMums site – which qualifies, in a way, about blogging, since Susanna and I have spent hours talking about what bloggers need and want from a social network. That translates into waking up 5am to do a bit more work during UK hours.

At the same time, I’ve been jotting down thoughts for blog posts and feeling a bit neglectful of this blog. But it all begs the question: once your run a blog, do you ever get time away from it?

A discussion on BritMums reveals that in summer we seem to all feel busier than ever. Kids are out of school. We’re trying to work in all of our personal projects, be it a book, work or just keeping life ticking over. Finding time to blog tends to be fitted in around visits to the pool or the park.

Not that I can complain. I’ve spent my mornings in my parents’ garden, where it’s in the 90s by 8am, drinking tea and tapping away in the shade of an umbrella while the kids played in the hot tub (turned into a plunge pool by the addition of cool water). As an “offfice” it’s not too bad.

We go back to the UK at the end of the week, however, and I don’t feel like I’ve had a break. Either I’m playing with the kids or I’m working. The stack of books I brought has been largely untouched. My list of craft project languishes. It’s been a fantastic time away but I wonder when the blogging holiday occurs.

  1. I think people must take a bit of a break, because there are fewer comments around on blogs. That must mean fewer of us are finding time to read.

    1. I find I’m really missing keeping touch with everyone and knowing what’s going on in their lives. The tradeoff is that I know more about what’s going on with my ACTUAL family.

  2. We went away for 5 fabulaous days on my friends’ kibbutz. My klout score dropped 4 points. I’m now wondering if the holiday was worth it as Klout is such an unforgiving taskmaster. (Just kidding)

  3. I haven’t taken a break this year as my children are not at school yet ( big one starts in September ), so summer is much the same as the rest of the year, and we only had a short holiday. Next year I’m sure will be very different! x
