A penthouse is the tops, a beachside villa splendid, but there’s something special about a treehouse.
Looking out into the canopy from your perch as the foliage flutters against the sky — it’s natural, serene. Treehouse accommodation invites the child in all of us to come out. The treehouses at Chewton Glen hotel, nestled in the New Forest, also attract pamper-loving adults along with actual children, with their quirky and cool luxury spaces.
From the first time I saw pictures of the treehouses at Chewton Glen hotel, I knew I had to see them in person, so I was delighted that on a recent visit I got a tour from the general manager, Mark Bevan.
Chewton Glen is one of Hampshire’s best family-friendly hotels, a luxury country house hotel with activities ranging from croquet on the lawn to clay pigeon shooting to cooking classes at The Kitchen, it café and purpose-built cookery school.
See what the Kitchen and James Martin’s cookery school are like in my post on BritMums
Mark Bevan says some folks come and nest, barely seen by the staff (there’s a hatch through which room service can post your order). Some come in multi-family groups: the treehouses are built in duplexes, so you can take over an entire unit, leaving your front door open to a common entryway so the kids can run in and out between the two.
The Chewton Glen treehouses are so popular that the hotel is adding another in its 130 acres. You can see a lot of beauty shots of these treehouses on the Chewton Glen site and in press coverage. With these pictures I wanted to show what these accommodations look like on an actual walk-through.
Here’s an inside look:

These Treehouse Loft Suites actually sleep up to 6, the Hideaway Suite versions sleep up to 3 and the Studio Suite is a romantic treehouse for 2. Having had a look in person, I can’t wait to go back and experience life among the trees.
Have you ever stayed in a treehouse, or at Chewton Glen? Leave a comment and let me know what you thought!
Disclosure: I visited Chewton Glen as a guest of the hotel, where I stayed in a Croquet Lawn Suite overlooking the lawn and the main building. My accommodation and meals were covered. All opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness, they are just perfect! I think I’d want to wait until the children were a bit older so it was actually relaxing though!

You’d definitely like to loll in that bed, at least past 6am!
Oh Jen, I have aways wanted to stay at Chewton Glen, you lucky thing!! It looks amazing! I love the bookshelf stairs.
Isn’t that just a clever little touch that shows they’ve thought about what it’s like to actually stay and enjoy a getaway here?
Oh wow it looks idyllic there! Probably one for when my two are a bit older… or without them…!
Ha, either way, it would be an idyllic getaway!
I really need to experience this for myself! My youngest son came home from school one day last year and announced he wanted to stay in one of the Chewton Glen treehouses. I love the woodturning stove – it makes them seem as cosy and comforting in the winter as well although I’d love to enjoy the hot tub and private terrace in warmer weather too. Thanks for sharing all the juicy details on #FarawayFiles
Ha ha — what’s your son’s source? I think it’s great that they seem outfitted both for colder months and summer as well.
I’ve never stayed in a treehouse type accommodation but am always reading about them bc I’m so curious, and this looks like it might be the nicest one I’ve seen! Very cool! #farawayfiles
It is pretty luxurious. I didn’t actually get to sleep in this one, but just walking through made me want to unpack and stay a while.
These cabins look so glam, certainly not what I have always envisaged a treehouse would look like. I’d love to stay in one and hear the birds in the early morning and at sunset. #FarawayFiles
What an evocative idea — listening to the birds while staring out into the canopy, your morning cup of tea in hand. *bliss* Thanks for commenting.
