It’s happening tomorrow – the biggest parent blogging event in the UK – and we’ve been organising like mad! As co-founder of BritMums, I’ve spent the last several weeks thinking of little else and making endless to-do lists. However there are some things that just haven’t gotten done.
Here they are and why it’s OK.
1. Order more business cards
I’m usually good at remembering to grab a stack of business cards before leaving the house for a blogger event. With 500 people pouring through the doors on Friday at 2pm, I’m going to need more than my usual handful, but I’ve just pulled the last stack from my office drawer. I’ll be taking some old cards from when I was freelance writing, but thank God for smartphones. I may just be entering everyone’s details right into my iContacts, or asking for one of yours from your plentiful supply.
2. Buy a new outfit

It’s always nice to wear something new, but through a combination of being mean and dreading the whole clothes shopping experience, I haven’t actually gone out bought a new “look” for the two days of sessions, networking, eating and drinking. That’s OK, since BritMums Live is about having fun and being yourself. Instead I’ve pulled out a casual dress I keep for special occasions and a pair of trousers and crisp white shirt. My cofounder Susanna has pulled a pair of jeans from her wardrobe and been practicing walking in shoes with a heel instead of her usual flats. Of course, we can always go to TK Maxx/HomeSense lounge to get tips from the stylist they’ll have there and try on clothes to get a new look for next year.
3. Pluck my eyebrows
I know this seems slight compared to the others, but eyebrows do frame your face and when you’re getting together with 500 of your new best friends, you want to look good. I hope everyone likes the hirsute me.

I did buy a new crisp shirt to wear and have just discovered that, although it’s been sitting pretty in my wardrobe for weeks now, it’s got a rip in the back. No idea whether I bought it like that or have somehow caught it. So had to start again deliberating over the old stuff!
Don’t have business cards and now I see everyone’s talking about them 🙁
Am going to pluck my eyebrows now – see if I can get something right.
Trish, your eyebrows were lovely I’m sure but the rest of you looked so good I didn’t notice!
Ha!! I just picked up my cards (hastily ordered last minute) and bought a new, loud ORANGE dress and some flaming red trousers …
too bad I have the worst case of conjuctivitis ever (think OediPUS) On day 3 of antibiotics, they will kick in any minute I hope
I love a loud orange dress. Wish I could get away with it *shrugs ruefully*
Oh God! My brows!!! I knew I forgot something.
Think Frieda Kahlo
Thanks for popping by.
Was a superb conference you must be very proud.
Liska x
Liska, thanks so much. We seem to be hearing lots of positive feedback, and we’re already planning for 2013.
So jealous! Wish I’d been there. It sounded like an enormous success and love seeing all the pics. I going to make sure I get there next time – it’s a shopping opportunity! (yes have to say plucking the brows are top on my list)
Jody, you MUST come. I promise it’s worth a trip over the ocean.
I forgot to order cards, I forgot to bring my pledge cards and I wish I’d chosen jeans for day one with a pocket for my phone rather than a skirt but hey ho you live and learn. Was fabulous working with you 🙂
Mari, you made the two days so much less stressful and so much more fun. Looking forward to planning 2013.
