Summer in London: Wahaca on the Southbank

Wahaca Southbank

There are those moments when I’m reminded how much I love living in cities and how much I love living in London. Tonight was a glorious summer evening on the Southbank, the Summer of Love festival is going on, people were drinking and relaxing on the terrace and I met Selena from Oh, the Places We Will Go at the Wahaca Southbank Experience.

Wahaca really is one of the best places to get — we can’t call it Tex-Mex but at least some kind of Mex — in the UK. It’s fresh, delicious, colourful. (As every Tex-Mex lover will know, true Tex-Mex tends to be all brown, served in a soupy mess and is absolutely gorgeously delectable.)

This location looks out over the South Bank urban beach and is constructed out of shipping containers, a concept that’s caught on as a hallmark of with-it architecture even if it’s not necessarily as green as it first appears. (You can watch the video of how they built the pop-up.) But when you’re holding a watermelon margarita, eating creamy guacamole and people watching on a sunny London day, it feels like there’s no better place to be.

I LOVE the Southbank. My nan used to live in Waterloo so it was our playground. I also love the way it’s such a vibrant area and full of so much to do. I’ll definitely be taking the girls to the Festival hall this summer.

I love the South Bank too – it’s one of my favourite parts of London, and there’s so much to do there. I just love walking along the river, up to Westminster or down to the Globe. Either is fine for me!

The GLOBE! Definitely should be on everybody’s list when visiting London and you can hardly believe it’s right in the thick of things on the South Bank.

Can’t beat the great British summer and I’m happiest on a beach in Cornwall with all the family.

Oh great – I’ve walked past it many a time, but haven’t been in so will give it a go. My kids love Ping Pong which a chinese fusion sort of restaurant in the area but I do think wandering down the south bank is great – there is a VERY cool bar in the National Film Institute btw if you want to hang out with creative types!!! Have you been there ? Lx

There is definitely so much to do in the vibrant South Bank, however don’t restrict yourself to the summer months. The South Bank has amazing activities and events on offer throughout the year, especially during Christmas!
