How to display travel pictures: the Big App

There’s nothing quite like travelling to a new and exotic place, capturing it on film or in bytes, adding it to the 1,768 pictures on your computer and never seeing it again.

Or you finally get around to putting it up, then reconsider. Witness:

Petrol pump in Hico, Texas

When I first took this picture of a vintage petrol pump in Hico, Texas, I really liked it. I had it printed poster size and framed it. Now, several years later, I kinda hate it. But the cost and effort of replacing it with something else has always seemed too onerous.

Until now. At BritMums, we are working with Kodak to promote its Big App, which is a great way to cheaply print and display travel pics in large format. You upload your image to the Big App site, its converted into a multi-page PDF, then you print it out on A4 photo paper. (Join our Big App Challenge. I’ts ridiculously easy: you post a picture on your blog that you think would look good wall-sized, include the Challenge badge and add your blog to the Linky. You could win a digital camera or a printer package worth more than £200 including a printer, paper and ink. Check it out now!)

So far, I’ve done this with a picture in downtown Austin (I love the music flier and this girl’s rainbow socks) and with a vintage liquor sign in Brenham, Texas (are you seein’ a theme here?).

But now I’m hooked and have hauled out a bunch of pictures from years past to see the different looks I can get when they’re wall-sized. So which do you think I ought to use?

Any suggestions?

Ooh the first two are awesome! I would go with the camel w/ your daughter and husband tho…that’s gorgeous & you’ll never tire of that!

I’m so bad at printing out my photos. I am really looking forward to trying the Kodak Big App! We’ve got a feature wall in what will be our new master bedroom & I’m trying to decide which pic too!

Loving the Kodak Big App. Very cool.

Thanks, lady! I do like the camel one – I especially like that the camel is looking right at the camera. Ready for its closeup.

Hey lady, thanks! When they’re lined up all together, they do look sweet, in the parlance of Ashton Kutcher.

I like how it looks like it was taken with a slightly fisheyed lens…
